A ceremony marking the start of operations for substations and power transmission and transformation lines at the Karuma Hydropower Station undertaken by SINOHYDRO in Uganda was held on March 23.

The substations and power transmission and transformation lines project for the Karuma Hydropower Station consists of four substations and three power transmission and transformation lines.

On the day, two substations and two power transmission and transformation lines started operating, namely the Olwiyo and Lira substations, the Karuma-Olwiyo 400 kV power transmission and transformation line and the Karuma-Lira 132kV power transmission and transformation lines.

Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, Uganda's minister of energy and mineral development, said the successful commissioning of substations and transmission and transformation lines is of great significance for the residents of the communities in northern Uganda.

It also demonstrated SINOHYDRO's strong project execution and contract performance capabilities, the minister added.

After starting operations, the project will supply energy to three important distribution cities in Uganda, effectively alleviating the tight power supply situation in that country.
